"Looking at the feedback, all the participants rated the session as "excellent", and some of the words they used to describe it include; thoughtful, inspiring, fun, meaningful and motivating."

MR Edinburgh Business School

The presenter Steve was amazing. Excellent presentation, organization, and energy. Bravo!

CH University of Cambridge

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G ! I was quite impressed about the energy and devotion of the presenter, you could tell that he was truly passionate about what he does and that itself is captivating!!!

GY TUD

I am hearing some fantastic feedback about yesterday's workshop.  One student even said that you are the best presenter they have ever heard.

JS EAO DTP

One of the best classes I've attended...ever.

RN RHUL

Thank you so much for the training session...I really enjoyed and learnt lots from it.
This is quite refreshing...as we are often 'forced' to undertake statutory training sessions that are completely useless and irrelevant to what we do. This was an optional session, but it was the most useful I've had in the last eight years! So thank you!

MG (Senior Lecturer) University of Westminster

The most interesting, productive and enjoyable staff development event that I've ever been to. Thank you.

MD Lecturer Brunel University

Thanks for the inspiring talk and the wonderful workshop. It was given in a very visually appealing form. Who doesn't like to read interesting illustrations? It was very well designed, practical and valuable for anyone who wants to enhance their understanding about writing.

LZ Confucius Institute for Business and Communication

Just a few quick lines to thank you for the excellent seminar – Giving Presentations. It was absolutely superb. I’ve been to quite a number of these seminars on doing presentations (in a University as well as a business context) – but yours was the best one so far, by a long margin.

MK Durham University

This was an extremely informative, enjoyable and above all valuable session and I look forward to putting some of the techniques I've learned today into practice.

SM City University London

Many thanks for the seminar today; I found it very interesting and incredibly useful. I’m about to transition from a senior PDRA to a tenure-track fellow so found everything particularly relevant to me. I will definitely put the ideas into practise.

NL PDRA University of Liverpool

Just wanted to say how good your workshop was. In fact, it's the best I’ve ever been to.

MA Programme Leader University of Dundee

You could clearly see that Steve was passionate about the subject and it reflected in the quality of teaching. Faultless.

EC Researcher KCL

Thank you for sharing an inspiring learning experience.

KA PDRA University of York

Many thanks for your brilliant session today. It must have been the best training session I've had throughout my study here.

NM Researcher University of Nottingham

Would I recommend this session? Unequivocally - to any academic.

FM Principal Investigator

This was the most successful training event I have attended; your understanding of the challenges of our particular project and your skill in engaging the participants was outstanding.

RN Research Professor

It don't remember ever going on a course here where I stayed awake and alert and interested all day. I know this seems doesn't seem like much, but this was a great session. Thank you.

RF Program Administrator

I just wanted to jot you a note of thanks to say how much I enjoyed your workshop on Conference Posters this morning. It was certainly more lively and engaging than I had hoped for - how did you manage to bring such charisma to poster design?!

SP Researcher

Just wanted to thank you for a great session - it has helped me focus and will be a great asset to me. I very nearly didn't attend because of a looming deadline , but I believe the hours spent will be repaid many times over!

RS Research Supervisor

Your first opening question changed my perspective on things entirely. Real insight and complete focus. Thank you.

GC Section Head

Thanks so much for your session. It really motivated me to change my approach to networking and academic conferences this summer. I can honestly say that putting your tips and tools into practice made me feel more confident, helped me to get more feedback on my work from senior people and allowed me to figure out a networking style that I'm finally comfortable with.

AB Judge Business School

Thanks again for today's workshop. I have attended several similar sessions in recent years. Yours is by far the best. Your approach has caused me to ask myself how to derive personal lessons from the material, and that has not happened very often before....

GC Research Professor

Thank you so much for the most interesting and inspiring workshop! I didn't only enjoy it but have tried to practise it. I felt lost in the midst of things and not sure what I was after. Now I feel more confident to do something. It's such a great feeling!

SML Research Student

What struck me most was how aware he seemed to be of everything that was occurring in the room. The real benefit came where he managed to help us open up discussions of what everyone was thinking… but no one was saying.

JPR Project Manager

I learned more in one afternoon with you than in the entire “Academic Development” programme that we are forced to do here. You’ve made me question my views on training. Thank you.

RG Lecturer and PhD Supervisor

I found your session on Saturday very useful indeed, to the extent that I haven't stopped thinking and rethinking so much of what you said. I am already working on some short term objectives which I have set myself and have organised another meeting with my supervisor. I feel so much more positive and optimistic now and certainly have managed to get rid of that dreaded feeling of isolation which can really pull me down

PR Research Student

I wanted to email you to say how interesting and informative I found the Giving Conference Presentations course yesterday. It was supportive, fun, answered all of my queries and provided more information on top. I would recommend this course for any academic

PB Research Staff

Thanks for the thesis course that I came on before the summer. I learned stuff that morning that I guess I really should have known before. I just submitted my thesis, so I’m celebrating! Your course should be compulsory – and I’ve told that to my supervisor!

MP Post Doc (Pending)

I’m just writing to say that, of all the sessions I’ve ever been to, this was by far the best.

DW Research Technician

Thanks for a really interesting day yesterday. I've been on two of your courses now and what works for me is the fact that they are different to the usual course format- more interactive and tailored to what individual participants want.

NK Research Student

The workshop was directed with real efficiency and yet, in the space of that relatively short time, you managed to achieve a warm and genuine relationship with each student, making us feel relaxed about airing problems and helping us arrive at possible solutions.

MO Research Student

Last year I took part in your Managing Research course and I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for it. I found the questions you asked and tasks you gave us very inspiring. I gained so much from it and my first half year of my PhD programme certainly would not have been the same without it! I kept minutes from the workshop which I still use.

JP Research Staff

… thanks for the course that you ran about finishing the PhD. I was having a hard time and wondering if it was worth it. The ideas, tactics, techniques and support that I got from that afternoon were probably the difference between quitting and staying. Anyway, I got through my viva successfully yesterday – and I wanted to thank you.

LM Post-Doc

contributed in so many ways to turn this event into a smoothly running registering all participants, interacting with them on many details, organizing many.

Sample Letter of Thank You for Participation

thanks letter for participation in the event

Just as you would send a friend a thank you note or email for lending a hand or doing you a favor, it's also a kind gesture to send a quick note to colleagues who help with something work-related.

Whether it's a coworker or someone you manage, a note of appreciation is always welcome. Your thank you note does not need to be formal or lengthy—just make sure it includes your gratitude.

That way, the manager (who most likely has the power to give raises, bonuses and promotions) is aware of your colleague's help as well.

How to Write Your Thank You Note

Depending on the circumstances, you might want to send a card or note by mail to thank your colleague for the help he or she gave you on a project. This can be a nice touch.

A card to put on a bulletin board or desk is a lasting reminder of appreciation, and also serves as a hard copy record for the person's files. If you are handwriting your note, remember to include the date on the top right side of the note.

Email is also a perfectly fine way to express appreciation. However you decide to send your thanks, your letter will contain the same elements.

What to Include

Salutation

You should begin with a salutation. Depending on your relationship, you might choose “Dear” or “Hi” since this is an informal note between colleagues. As in all business correspondence, don’t use abbreviations or slang. The note can be informal, but all work-related correspondence needs to maintain a professional tone.

Body of Email or Note

The body of your letter should mention a few ways that the person's expertise was valuable to your project—you can mention how much you appreciate the time the person took out of his or her busy schedule to offer assistance.

Closing

In your closing, it’s always nice if you can offer to reciprocate in some way. Otherwise, you can just share your gratitude and pleasure about having the opportunity to work with the person on this particular project.

Sample Thank You Letters for Help With a Project

Here are sample email messages or letters that thank an employee for help with a project. Use these examples as a guideline when creating your own letter or message, and include specific details about how the person helped out.

Subject: Thank You

Dear Eloise,

Thank you very much for offering your assistance on the upcoming Human Resources project. I really appreciate your willingness to help out outside your current position.

It is helpful to have someone who has had experience with similar issues on previous projects to offer guidance and direction. I know HR is happy to have you assisting in this matter.

Let me know if you need anything from me. I can make someone available to help your team out while you spend a few days with the Human Resources staff.

Regards,

Peter

Hi Mike,

I wanted to thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to help the Finance department get the year-end accounting completed.

I know the work wasn’t part of your normal responsibilities, but your assistance was invaluable in helping my department get everything done in a very timely manner.

We sincerely appreciate your efforts and thank your manager as well for sharing some of your schedule with the Finance department.

Dear Sophie,

Thank you so much for coming in all those extra hours last week to help me get the new shop set up. I can’t believe how much more space we have for display, and the new kitchen is going to make it so much easier to meet the demand for wedding cakes this summer!

You are always such a help, and I appreciate your support in every way. I am so happy to have you as my assistant, and I’m looking forward to working with you as we move into the next phase with our growing business.

Fond regards,

Melissa

thanks letter for participation in the event

Sending out thank you emails to the attendees of your event is the perfect way to let them know how much you care. It not only shows that you remembered them even after the event, but it also encourages them to come again for the next event you organize.

So, if you are looking for something to boost your popularity, it is time that you write a thank you email, after an event has taken place. Here you will find some great tips on how to write a great post-event thank you note.

What is A Thank You Email

A thank you email is simply an email that shows your appreciation for those who’ve attended your event. It is a courteous after-event act that makes the attendees feel valued.

Although this may sound simple, writing a thank you after a successful event may be quite tricky. This is because a thank you email for attending an event needs to subtly encourage your attendees to come for your future events as well.

As such, when you write a thank you email for an event, you need to make sure that you market yourself well and indicate that you genuinely felt honored when your attendees came for your event.

Why You Need A Thank You Email

As mentioned earlier, a thank you email bridges the gap between you and your attendees. A thank you email for attending an event is more than just a show of appreciation. It is a technique by which you retain the loyalty of those who have already attended your event.

A thank you email also acts as a medium through which you raise awareness regarding your event. This is because if you make your existing attendees feel valued, they are more than likely to pass on the word to others.

Therefore, word-of-mouth spreads fast and gives you much credibility automatically.

Moreover, a thank you email builds trust between you and your target audience. This is extremely useful since the trust that you build between yourself and your attendees ensures that in the future, you can connect with them and gather useful information.

This helps you extensively in terms of getting relevant insights on what your target audience wants. Also, you will be able to gain authentic feedback since the attendees will be willing to share honest reviews regarding your event.

A thank you email also gives you an opportunity to drive more conversions. That is, you may subtly incorporate a call-to-action in your thank you email. This way, you ensure that attendees will keep visiting your website for the latest updates and events.

The Best Subject Lines For A Thank You Email

When it comes to writing a subject line for a thank you email for an event, the subject line that you choose depends on the type of audience you are writing to. Although this may sound obvious, it is something most seem to overlook.

Your subject line may be as simple as “Thank You for attending Event Name”, or it could be something more delicate and personalized.

A more personalized subject line may also include an attendee’s name. This is certainly more impactful as it creates a sense of value and shows the recipient of the email that you are not just sending automated emails.

Nevertheless, the only way to find out which subject line works best is to keep on researching and experimenting. This is where A/B or split testing comes in.

For those who may not be familiar with the term, A/B testing involves creating more than one version of a subject line and testing which one works best.

For example, you may test two subject lines; one contains the name of the receiver while the other does not.

You can then start sending both and see which one drives more traffic. You may include a call-to-action to monitor the results.

Additionally, subject lines need to be optimized for various devices. This is because not everyone will be opening their emails on a PC. They might be viewing them on smartphones and tablets.

Therefore, a general rule of thumb is to limit your subject line to no more than 50 characters.

How to Create Great Subject Lines for Your Thank You Email

Although a subject line seems like the smallest part of your thank you email, it is the most important aspect of any email. After all, it is the subject line that will determine whether your email gets opened.

So, here are some useful tips that you can follow to create a great subject line.

Making them concise

Subject lines need to be short and to the point. It has been reported that around 40% of emails get opened on mobile devices. This implies that your subject line needs to be skillfully crafted. It should include the most relevant words first.

The sender’s name should be familiar to the recipient

Every day, we receive numerous spam emails. This means that if you send an email with an unfamiliar name, it is more than likely that the recipient will mistake the email for spam.

Furthermore, avoid using a sender name that has ‘no-reply’ in it. This is likely to backfire. Firstly, the recipient may not bother opening the email since there is no point in reading the content if they cannot reply to it.

Secondly, it can be quite demoralizing for the receiver to receive a robotic thank-you message. It will make them feel as if you are simply fulfilling a formality, rather than actually appreciating their attendance.

What You Need to Write in the Body of A Thank You Email

Email copy is the next most important thing after the subject line. The question of how to write a thank you email for attending an event is discussed here:

Keeping it short

Just like the subject line, the body of the email should be short and sweet. You must be wondering as to why we are stressing so much about keeping the content as little as possible.

The reason is that no one has enough time or patience to read mails with long paragraphs. People need to get the message as quickly as possible. Therefore, keeping everything to the point is highly essential.

Understand what you will look for in a thank you email

Your attendees are not much different from you. As such, it is very helpful to consider what you yourself would want in a thank you email.

This will make sure that you include things that will make you feel valued and honored.

Looking for examples

It is always a good idea to look for samples. Samples of post-event thank you emails can give you great ideas as to what you need to include in your own emails.

You can use the following template of a post-event thank you email as a starting point:

Subject: Thank you for coming, <firstname>.

Dear <firstname>,

We are more than thankful that you attended our event. We hope you enjoyed the experience.

Looking forward to meeting you again next time.

Thank You.

Best Regards,

Your Name

How to Test Your Thank You Email

Just like reminder emails, it is not easy to test thank you emails. One way is to ask your recipients to give their feedback through your thank you email. If you get a number of replies, it shows that your thank you email was effective!

Principles of writing a post-event thank you email
